Why we are obsessed...
Blossom Beautifully Medical Aesthetics & Wellness has curated a combined treatment that gives you double the benefit without having to come in for two separate appointments.
PRF microneedling, also known as platelet-rich fibrin microneedling or PRF skin rejuvenation, is a cosmetic procedure that combines two techniques: microneedling plus the application of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF). This treatment is used to improve the texture and appearance of the skin, addressing issues such as wrinkles, fine lines, acne scars, and uneven skin tone.
Primarily used in orthopedic surgery, the concept of administering PRF for increased healing has been around for decades
Let’s break this down into the two techniques: microneedling and PRF.
Microneedling is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that involves using a specialized device with tiny, fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries in the skin's surface. These micro-injuries stimulate the body's natural wound healing process, which includes the production of collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are proteins that play a crucial role in maintaining the skin's elasticity and youthful appearance. As the skin heals, it becomes firmer, smoother, and more even in texture.
PRF is a component of your blood that is rich in growth factors and platelets. Platelets are known for their role in blood clotting, but they also contain growth factors that promote tissue regeneration and repair. In PRF microneedling, a small amount of your blood is drawn and then processed to concentrate the platelets. This PRF is then applied topically to the skin during or after the microneedling procedure.
The combination of PRF and microneedling has the benefits of enhanced skin rejuvenation, reduced fine lines and wrinkles, acne scar improvement, even skin tone, and minimized pore size among overall brightness and collagen production.
We recommend undergoing four PRF microneedling treatments, spaced out every 4-6 weeks, in order to see best results. Maintenance is one per year.
You will be instructed to arrive 30 minutes early for numbing and to have your blood drawn for processing the platelets.
The procedure itself takes about 30 minutes to complete.
When you arrive at your PRF microneedling appointment, your provider will greet you and begin by taking “before” photos of your desired treatment area. Once this is done, they will complete a thorough assessment of your skin to see if a PRF microneedling treatment would be appropriate for you. Your provider will take the time to listen to your facial concerns, as well as explain the risks/benefits of the procedure prior to proceeding. Once a plan is agreed upon, a topical analgesic will be applied to reduce discomfort during the procedure. You will then have a simple blood draw, which your provider will process for Platelet Rich Fibrin while you numb. You’re now set to go! Your provider will lean you back in the chair and begin making “passes” with the SkinPen® until the desired reaction is achieved. This may take up to three passes over one individual area. Your provider will apply the fresh PRF directly to the treated skin for best absorption. In total, your PRF microneedling appointment should last approximately 60 minutes from start to finish.
Everyone’s healing process varies, but it is safe to expect approximately 3 days of social downtime, as your skin will go through stages after your microneedling treatment. Immediately post microneedling, your skin will be red and inflamed. You will be leaving with a “vampire” face due to the PRF. We recommend that you do not make any plans the same day your treatment is conducted. After 24 hours, your skin will change from red to pink-tinged (light sunburn-looking) and you may breakout with surface blackheads/pimples. On days 2-4 after treatment, your skin may feel dry and begin to peel. This is an anticipated reaction that can occur from your body getting rid of old skin cells to make room for newly created ones. It is important that you do NOT use any harsh chemicals or active ingredient products (such as retinoids or glycolic/salicylic acids) post microneedling for 3 days. We highly recommend avoiding sun exposure, wearing a mineral, broad spectrum SPF, and using an emollient moisturizer during your recovery period.
Use an antioxidant serum and prescription-strength retinoid for the 30 days leading up to your appointment.
Do not stop using your retinoid, as it greatly increases microneedling benefits.

Avoid the use of anti-inflammatory medications for at least three days prior to your treatment.
These medications can interfere with the body’s natural inflammatory process. Examples include IBUPROFEN®, ALEVE®, ASPIRIN®, and MOTRIN®.
Refrain from receiving any IPL/laser procedures, unprotected sun exposure, or sunburn for two weeks prior to your treatment.
If you are someone who is prone to cold sores, please take your antiviral medication (acyclovir or valacyclovir) on the morning of your treatment, as well as 12 hours after your first dose. Take 650mg of Tylenol one hour prior to your appointment for pain reduction.
Arrive to the clinic with a clean face, free of any lotions, oils, makeup, powder, or sunscreens.
Although many of our patients report results within 1-2 weeks of treatment, the most drastic results occur after 4-6 weeks, as it takes this amount of time for the body to finish creating new collagen and elastin. One of the biggest benefits of adding PRF to your treatment is the long term benefit of collagen production that continues for several months after the procedure. If executed in the recommended series of 4 treatment sessions, one month apart, results significantly increase and will continue to develop over the following months.
The benefits of PRF goes on and on.. Skin rejuvenation, improved skin texture, enhanced skin tone, reduced acne scarring, minimize pore size, and natural looking results. So the answer is 100% yes!
Most patients experience mild discomfort during the procedure. We have medical grade numbing topical numbing cream, which helps immensely! You may feel a mild burning or warming sensation as the device is in action. Some areas on the face may be more sensitive than others.
The long term benefit is the best reason to add on PRF to your microneedling procedure. Collagen is produced as a direct reaction to the PRF which continues for months after the procedure!
